Hi all. We had our first confirmed nesting terrapins earlier today in Cape May NJ. There had been some evidence of nesting in the local area in the days prior, but the nesting season seems to have officially started for us as of today. Hope you all are well, and have a great field season. _________________________ Brian Williamson Research Scientist The Wetlands Institute Since 1969 A leader in research, conservation, and education 1075 Stone Harbor Blvd | Stone Harbor, NJ 08247 P 609.368.1211 | F 609.368.3871 wetlandsinstitute.org< https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wetlandsinstitute.org%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cdtwg%40listserv.ohio.edu%7Cfc6dce686f0b477c6b2008d921321a31%7Cf3308007477c4a70888934611817c55a%7C0%7C1%7C637577321332023560%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0&sdata=K6RIbfshPOCfaNBA1COO1WUtumgPIichqo4DZU5I7nA%3D&reserved=0 > | facebook< https://www.facebook.com/WetlandsInstitute > | twitter< https://www.twitter.com/WetlandsSHNJ > Think green! All the nests our project protects are laid in or near the sand traps or hatchery boxes on several holes of the golf courses. For some unknown reason road killed terrapins are not common on the Diamond Causeway. In all my 33 years of driving back and forth to the UGA Marine Science Campus I have seen very few, as compared to the Tybee Road or Jekyll causeway. A number of mammal species aren't so lucky.
