[Dtwg] [External] nesting started?

    Thanks so much for capturing this photo, Eric! We don’t have any formal surveys for nesting terrapins in NC, but I have received reports from my bird biologist colleagues of nesting females on an island in Pamlico Sound (Dare County, NC in the Outer Banks) on May 17th. Another report of a nesting terrapin was received May 15th from the southern part of the state (Brunswick County, NC).

I took this outside my school in Morehead City, NC on May 16th.  I'm having trouble getting the file to attach, so if it doesn't come through it was of a female digging a hole. I checked after she left because it was in a path where students could have stepped. There were no eggs.

Last Thursday I reported the 2022 season's first documented nesting events in Georgia on Jekyll and Skidaway islands, respectively. Today Chantal Audran reports the female occurrence on Tybee Island, GA. For geographic reference, Tybee Island lies ~7 miles north of Skidaway Island.

The first nesting female documented on Jekyll Island was cataloged on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, and the first nesting female documented on Skidaway Island was cataloged Wednesday, 27 April 2022. For geographic reference, Skidaway Island is ~60 miles north of Jekyll Island.
