This summer internship will support Grid Solutions/Analytics Department.  The Grid Analytics Department's goal is to enable our stakeholders to improve customer focus, increase operational efficiencies and provide safer working environments.  The intern will work on projects that instill analytics into business processes that will provide the organization with fact based insights that change the paradigm on how decisions are made across Transmission & Distribution, Gas Operations, Grid Solutions, Customer Operations, Fleet and Environmental Health & Safety.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  *   Define key business problems to be solved; formulate methodical approaches and gather supporting data to solve those problems; develop and test heuristics that allow analysis and conclusions to be made and presented to the customer.  Enhance performance, decision making abilities and behaviors through modeling, research, analytics and process optimization techniques.
  *   Ability to support highly complex or specialized projects that may make significant departures from traditional approaches to develop solutions.
  *   Provides process integration support and services to the grid analytics department and stakeholder organizations in order to track and achieve measurable benefits to the organization and create operational success.  Requires participation with development of group initiatives and charters as well as working closely with project leaders to ensure analytics solutions are sustained and integrated into stakeholders business processes.  Ensures proper documentation of risks, assumptions, issues and decisions related to the solution have appropriate visibility and paths for escalation and resolution.

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  *   Analytical skills - ability to work with large amounts of data and perform analysis to draw conclusions
  *   Communication skills - ability to write and speak clearly easily communicating ideas across many levels in the organization
  *   Critical thinking skills - ability to look at patterns, data, and trends and develop solutions based upon findings
  *   Organization and time management skills - ability to use time effectively to establish proper priorities
  *   Teamwork skills - ability to work well with others (good listener, approachable, conflict management)

Qualifications
:  
Basic Qualifications:

  *   Currently pursuing a 4 year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or Business.
  *   3.0 cumulative GPA in an accredited university
  *   Valid Driver's License

Desired Qualifications:

  *   Junior or Senior school classification with coursework in area of major
  *   Previous experience managing a project effort
  *   Experience working in a dynamic, fast paced, cross functional environment
  *   Knowledge of process management fundamentals and supporting tools
  *   Knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean, TQM, Six Sigma, etc.
  *   Relationship management skills
  *   Group / meeting facilitation skills
  *   Experience with direct facing customer support
  *   Industrial Engineer Major
  *   Prior experience (1-3 internships) in an operational role at an electric utility company or in the utility industry.
  *   Experience with computer programming languages such as SQL, R, Excel Powerpivot, SAS, SPSS, MS BI Suite, MS SSAS
  *   MS Office application skills - proficient using Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
