DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:Title: Geometric and Geospatial Algorithms under
Data Conundrums in Geographic Information Systems\n\nAbstract: The rapid
growth of the need for data in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to enh
ance our understanding of the environment has prompted researchers and pra
ctitioners across various disciplines to develop efficient algorithmic met
hods for analyzing the mobility and movements of the entities on maps by d
iscerning geometric features from uncertain\, highly granular or even limi
ted data. The data challenge has arisen in domains such as intelligent tra
nsportation systems\, urban planning\, mobility\, military surveillance sy
stems\, and others over the past few years.\nIn this talk\, I will summari
ze some of our recent innovations involving realistic data in Computationa
l Geometry and Geospatial Systems. Several methods conducive to understand
ing the underlying properties of features on geometric data\, such as maps
and GPS data\, will be presented in detail. Additionally\, we will explor
e the practical application of these methods and their relevance to transp
ortation research\, e-commerce\, and vehicle routing problems. I will disc
uss the potential avenues these innovations open for marketing\, commercia
lization\, and further collaboration.\n\nBiographical Sketch: Dr. Mirzane
zhad is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Michigan -- Ann Arb
or. He received his Ph.D. in computer science at Tulane University\, New O
rleans\, US. His area of research entails Computational Geometry\, Geospat
ial Algorithms\, Data analytics\, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
. His overarching goal is to develop efficient and equitable methods to pr
ovide feasible insights for policy enforcement to improve the infrastructu
re of transportation systems for all groups of people. Dr. Mirzanezhad rec
eived the best research paper award at the International Workshop on Inter
active and Spatial Computing (IWISC). He has conducted research projects p
rimarily supported by Ford Motors Company\, RAND Corporation\, and the Nat
