<p><span class="4n-j"><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:black">In recent years, the number of potential commercial applications for small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) a.k.a. drones has significantly increased. Example applications include
environmental monitoring, surveillance, mapping, agriculture, aerial photography, search and rescue, law enforcement, to name a few. It is expected that many commercial UAS will operate at lower altitudes in sometimes challenging environments in terms of obstacles
that must be avoided (e.g. buildings, forests, and people) and available navigation capabilities. An example of the latter is the use of UAS for environmental monitoring, mapping and search and rescue applications in urban, indoor, or forest environments where
a typical GPS-based position capability is unreliable resulting in unpredictable and unsafe behavior of the drone. This talk will address the main challenges of operating sUAS in these environments and solutions to continue navigating in these environments.</span></span><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
