Signals from SmallSats\nContinuou s monitoring of the Earth and near-Earth environment poses significant cha llenges but is increasingly vital as climate change intensifies extreme we ather events and society becomes more reliant on space-based infrastructur e\, communication\, and power systems\, all of which can be vulnerable to disruption from severe space weather. With recent advancements in small sa tellite (SmallSat) technologies\, GNSS/signals-of-opportunity (SoOp) measu rements onboard SmallSats present a promising means for cost-efficient\, g lobal-scale\, and high-temporal-resolution observation of the Earth and ne ar-Earth environment\, benefiting from their passive nature\, the abundanc e of radio sources\, and the diversity of radio frequencies and geometries .\nOver relatively smooth Earth surfaces\, GNSS signals can be coherently reflected with sufficient energy to estimate the carrier phase\, a highly precise ranging measurement. This presentation will review our research us ing coherently reflected GNSS signals received by low Earth orbit (LEO) Sm allSats to retrieve the ionospheric total electron content (TEC)\, water v apor content in the lower atmosphere\, and river surface slope\, as well a s to precisely map Earth’s inland water and ice surface elevations. It w ill also highlight their unique strengths and potential to enhance and com plement existing observation systems. In closing\, this presentation will discuss the plans and speculative concepts for future research.\n\nBIOGRAP HY\nYang Wang is a visiting faculty member in the Ann and H. J. Smead Aero space Engineering Sciences Department at the University of Colorado Boulde r\, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2021. His research focuses on [A person w earing glasses and a white shirt Description automatically generated] dev eloping advanced GNSS receiver signal processing algorithms and using spac eborne GNSS measurements for remote sensing applications\, including the E arth's ionosphere\, atmosphere\, and surface. Yang is a recipient of the N ASA Heliophysics Early Career Investigator Award\, the Institution of Navi gation’s Bradford Parkinson Award\, a Lockheed Martin endowed fellowship \, and the Outstanding Graduate Student in Research Award in the Aerospace Engineering Sciences Department at the University of Colorado Boulder.\nY ang also holds an M.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University (2016) in Singapore and a B.E. in Electro nic and Information Engineering from Beihang University (2013) in China.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n________________________________________________ ________________________________\nMicrosoft Teams Need help?
