I agree with Karen. Many good things have happened at OU simply because of this initial attempt at increasing the OU Endowment. I had the privilege of chairing the Administrative "arm"of the 1804 campaign which saw a major rate of contribution from OU Administrators. The same was true for the Faculty and Staff campaigns, signaling a major expression of renewed confidence in a University that was fast recovering from major rates of enrollment decline. Grants were funded to focus on renewed efforts at retention which eventually contribute to an increase of first year retention to 87%, second only to one other University in Ohio. The next time you enter the Convo look up and see the flags of every country from which we have enrolled students at one time or another. The 1804 Campaign responded to a grants requested for this symbolic gesture to appreciates and welcome the diversity of the campus. These same flags have at one time or another lined the walkway on the College Green during International week. Thanks to Sheila and Larry for their continued devotion to OU and for their long time personal friendship. In a message dated 9/20/2013 2:44:27 P.M. So many good projects have benefitted from 1804 grants. Rich and Karen Vedder have donated and Dan Denhart was awarded a grant to automate scenery in the theater dept. which will indirectly benefit OVST and our Patrons and audience members. Sheila is an alumna of the University (’68) and her husband Larry is currently the chair of the Advancement Committee on the OU Foundation Board of Trustees. This Fund has supported research projects across the university since 1980. More than 600 projects have been funded. The extent to which the university is enhanced by this fund cannot be overestimated. The matching funds challenge provides an opportunity to double your gift to this worthwhile feature of our university. Give what you can, but only gifts up to $2500 will be matched. Please make checks to “The Ohio University Foundation” and designate the “ 1804 Fund –McHale Matching Challenge” on the memo line.
