Rick Roth Chair, Geospatial Science Department Radford University, Radford, VA 24142 Position Advertisement: GEOSPATIAL SCIENCE: Full-time Special Purpose Instructor position in Geospatial Science to start in Fall of 2015. We are seeking a new special purpose faculty member, at the rank of instructor, who is passionate about geography and capable of teaching a broad range of courses in human and physical geography and GIS. Special purpose faculty at Radford University hold continuing, full-time appointments, subject to annual reappointment, without eligibility for tenure. The required qualifications are a M.A. or M.S. in Geospatial Science, Geography or related field and one year of teaching experience at the collegiate level (graduate Teaching Assistant experience acceptable). Candidates must have expertise and be able to demonstrate their knowledge in regional geography, physical geography, environmental science, and GIS. Preferred qualifications are two years of teaching at the collegiate level and evidence of excellence in teaching. Evidence of successfully engaging students, using high impact learning practices such as undergraduate research and service learning, effective communication skills, and experience working with diverse populations is also preferred. Experience with online course development and the ability to incorporate geospatial technology into curriculum will be viewed favorably. Responsibilities include teaching a 12-credit course load per semester. Courses may include physical geography, human geography, GIS, and/or a Core Curriculum class. Other responsibilities may include academic advising, professional development, and university service, especially in shared governance. As a rapidly expanding program the department encourages its faculty to be active mentors and to engage in developing new teaching, recruitment, and retention strategies.
