Dear Faculty & Staff:

We are seeking your recommendations for students to apply for a unique 6-week opportunity with the Bader International Study Center at Herstmonceux Castle, U.K. from May 6 to June 17, 2016.

The Bader International Study Center offers an annual summer 6-week Interdisciplinary Studies in Global Health and Disability program. The 2016 program will include courses on global perspectives in community-based rehabilitation, global sport and disability; research and policy in disability studies, global mental health issues and policy, and a course centered on the theory and context of interprofessional and collaborative practice from a global policy viewpoint. The program includes classroom time, guest lectures and extensive field studies in England and continental Europe. An example of the schedule from 2015 can be found at: http://queensu.ca/bisc/academics/programs/upper-year/

> .

Dr. Lorna Jean Edmonds, Vice Provost for Global Affairs at OHIO and a guest lecturer for the Bader program, has graciously donated two $3000 USD scholarships for Ohio University Students to participate in the program in 2016. To meet the full cost of the program (estimated at approximately $9000 including airfare) students can also apply for applicable funding through the Office of Global Opportunities and the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.

The scholarships are open to undergraduate students with an interest in global health, health policy, disability or mental health. The coursework and 6-week schedule is intense and requires a mature student with existing critical thinking skills. As the program includes students and guest lecturers from around the globe, this is a perfect opportunity for a student who plans to move into graduate education and wants to build international connections. Course Transfer Credit will be available through Queens University - Canada.

To apply for the scholarships, interested students will write an essay and participate in an interview with members of the Global Health Travel Award Committee. Scholarship applications are due by November 16, 2015 . Application instructions, including essay details and the grading rubric are attached. Applications for the Bader program are due by March 15, 2016, although students are encouraged to apply early as all spots were filled by late December last year.

Sincerely,
