The Utah Remote Sensing Applications Lab< https://ursa.utah.edu/ > in the Department of Geography at the University of Utah< https://geog.utah.edu/ > is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in Geospatial Analysis and Remote Sensing. The selected applicant will collaborate with lab members to develop geospatial methods for assessing wildfire risk to communities and improving wildland firefighter safety. Depending on remote sensing expertise, the selected applicant may also have the opportunity to be involved in projects using airborne hyperspectral remote sensing data to test vegetation cover mapping and greenhouse gas plume retrieval applications for a potential future satellite hyperspectral mission. Basic Qualifications * Expertise with geospatial analysis, algorithms, and applications * Proficiency with common GIS and remote sensing software packages * Strong programming skills in Python and/or R * A PhD in Geography or a related field by July 1, 2019 * Demonstrated ability to collaborate * Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills Additional/Preferred Qualifications * Experience working with remotely sensed data, particularly with multispectral, lidar, hyperspectral, and/or drone data * Experience with fire behavior models, firefighting, and/or fuels and wildfire applications * Experience in application development This position is scheduled to start July 1, 2019. The position will be supported for a period of two years, with a third year pending funding and satisfactory progress. Salary will be $50,000 per year if position qualifications are met.
