Under the direction of the Enterprise GIS Manager, the GIS Technician will apply their thorough knowledge of the ArcGIS suite of products to assist with the development and maintenance of the university's enterprise GIS. The primary responsibility will be maintaining and developing the campus basemap, tree data, landscape and other operational layers related to university asset management. This includes updates resulting from construction projects, with data derived from Autocad or drone imagery. Edits and updates the GIS database daily. Ensures accuracy and currency of the GIS database and other geospatial data through extensive QC/QA. Runs queries and analyzes data for specific projects in addition to creating applicable map products or services. Reviews and updates metadata. Assists with collection and post processing of aerial imagery via drone. Writes and maintains extensive documentation explaining project directions and parameters for staff and student usage of the GIS data. Keeps up with current and future technologies, software and geospatial tools. Assists in training GIS Assistants and/or new employees. Consults with senior level staff and departmental managers as necessary. Experience: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Geography, GIS, or other relevant fields. Or a GIS certificate and two years demonstrated proficiency in the use of ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and usage of peripherals in lieu of bachelor's degree. Highly skilled in ArcGIS suite of products (10X). Experience with networks, georeferencing, COGO'ing, running topology, data layer editing and working within a versioned environment. Excellent understanding of coordinate systems and various GIS data formats and databases (shapefiles, features classes, personal geodatabases vs. ArcSDE). Experience with linking objects to data features and comfortable creating joins and relates. Familiarity with web map services, ArcGIS Online and Portal. Advanced knowledge of computers, operating systems and peripherals. Proficient in writing technical documentation. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and part of a team Desired: Experience with ArcGIS Collector, ArcPad or other surveying/GPS tools. Drone pilot certification and experience with flight planning and imagery acquisition. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and other Auto desk products. Experience with data transformation technologies (FME). Experience with building and/or customizing ArcGIS Online maps and apps.
