Dr. Katharine Sprecher of the Critical Studies in Educational Foundations
program would like to announce a new course being offered Spring 2014:

EDCS 6900 Special Topics in Critical Studies in Educational Foundations:
Education & Feminist Thought
Wednesdays, 5:15 – 9:00 p.m., in McCracken Hall 309, Section 103, # 1781

How does feminist thought intersect with education: what and how we learn
and teach and what and who are considered valid knowledges and knowers at
the intersections of gender, race, and class in schools and the academy?
How have feminists theorized experiences of students and teachers of
diverse backgrounds in Higher, K-12, and popular education? Examining both
early pivotal and contemporary publications, this course will explore
feminist topics such as caring, critical / race / queer educational
theories, & gendered analyses of teacher / professor identities, work, and
training. Classes will combine critical dialogue with experiential, media,
and arts-based pedagogies that challenge and expand traditional
teaching-learning paradigms.

The course texts will include Dr. Sprecher's recently published co-edited
reader, Education Feminism: Classic and Contemporary Readings.
