Hello Graduates, This job comes to me from a colleague here in Texas. They are looking for an ID person and the work will focus on industry. For those of you not yet ready for such a job, it also provides some clear expectations for the field of instructional design work if you plan to work in industry. Please read the information carefully before applying as Dr. Rose is very specific about what he is seeking. Best wishes, Dr. Franklin ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rose, Richard < rrose at mail.wtamu.edu > Date: Thu, May 29, 2014 at 6:54 PM Subject: Instructional Design Position Available for Recent PhD To: " franklit at ohio.edu " < franklit at ohio.edu > Dear Dr. Franklin: I am hoping you might be able to assist me in filling a new vacancy for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Instructional Design & Technology at West Texas A&M University in Amarillo, Texas. We are a different kettle of fish. We are deeply committed to transferring practical marketable skills to our students in our terminal M.Ed program. A large percentage of our students live and work entirely outside the K-12 world. 97% of our students *do not* go on to a PhD. Most of our students are working professionals and many are already Web designers, computer trainers, adult educators, etc. Their interest in theoretical constructs and supporting research could be charitably described as modest. What they are interested in is skill expansion. So the core competences that we require of the new faculty member will be engineer-level skills in Adobe applications such as Dreamweaver, Captivate, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as artistic talent in graphic design. Someone with years of paid experience as a Senior Instructional Designer of online learning objects would be perfect. Here is the link to the job description: https://jobs.wtamu.edu/applicants/jsp/shared/frameset/Frameset.jsp?time=1401310669798 and I would be happy to visit with you on the phone if you have questions about this position. I have also attached a copy of the announcement. This job is clearly not for the more research- and theory-oriented scholars, but for a ID practitioner with a PhD, it might well be their dream job.
