If you received this message twice, I apologize. I am new to the process of posting to the listserv. Please read the attached flyer for additional information about the OSU Extension program in which we are inviting you to participate. Dear OAFCS member, This year OAFCS is collaborating with OSU Extension to help each of us Live Healthy, Live Well. We challenge you to participate in the 2013 Kick off the Pounds program offered by OSU Extension. I participated in this six-week program last year and thoroughly enjoyed reading the informative emails and the wonderful recipes. One of the weekly drawing prizes, a large insulated lunch bag, was delivered to my home so you never know how lucky you will be! We believe that this program, Live Healthy, Live Well, supports our program goals for the year as well as those of AAFCS. Won't you join us in this cooperative effort? It is free and easy to join-two things that really matter in our busy lives. Please, direct any questions about the program to Carol Chandler as explained at the end of her message below. Here's to living healthy and well! Candace Fox, President Ohio Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Greetings, OAFCS Members! Perhaps you started off your spring and summer strong with lots of physical activity and eating healthier with a goal to drop a few pounds in an effort to improve your overall well-being. However, if you are like me, you slowed down on your dedication and commitment to a healthier you when the summer heat rose and you took a week off for vacation or the county fair - and then that week turns into two, then three and so on. In a series of three separate studies looking at how changes in multiple dietary and other lifestyle factors relate to long-term weight gain, Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers found that modest changes in specific foods and beverages, physical activity, TV-watching, and sleep duration were strongly linked with long-term weight loss. Changes in diet, in particular, had the strongest associations with differences in weight gain (New England Journal of Medicine, 2011). This research should serve as encouragement to embrace lifestyle changes including dietary intake and regular physical activity. To assist you with your journey to a healthier lifestyle, please consider joining Ohio State University Extension's six week wellness challenge - "Kick Off the Pounds". This on-line challenge is designed to help participants get fit by encouraging regular physical activity and healthier food choices while incorporating wellness tips. Participants will receive weekly communications via email with support materials available by blog and Facebook. Email messages will be highlighted with educational tips and accompanying recipes. (See flyer attached.) Anyone who documents a nutrition, health and fitness lifestyle change at the completion of the six-week program will be entered in a drawing to win a prize. There will be weekly drawings for cookbooks, fitness products, and other prizes to encourage wellness - all participants are eligible to win. In addition to the free, weekly e-communications, participants will be able to download a dietary intake and physical activity log to help participants track their progress. Pre-and post- challenge surveys will be used to collect data to determine program impact and ways to improve future programming efforts. Interested in participating in this on-line challenge? Go to this link: https://eheosu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3J0Xvmn7jOtn18p by September 8 to register with your name and email address. In a few days, you will receive a message with a link to complete the pre-challenge survey. The challenge will begin officially on Monday, September 9 and run through Sunday, October 20. While Facebook will be utilized, it is optional and participants only need to have an email address.
