    Hi OCEES grads, there is a new scicomm initiative on campus, an OHIO online magazine called The Athens Effect. They are looking to write about research happening locally (and not only), so lots of potential for further showcasing OCEES work.

Hello!
So the publication is going to be called The Athens Effect, focusing on Science, Social Science, Technology and Research at OU. We're recruiting as soon as the semester starts and will (hopefully!) be able to launch the website as soon as we have the first round of stories. We're looking for a lot of student contributors, so if you know anyone who would be interested, send them our way! Also any science or research around Athens that you think needs more coverage we would be thrilled to take a look at.

Dear Dr. Viorel Popescu,
As far as recruitment effort goes, so far we have reached out to people throughout the Scripps school of journalism and a variety of people Andrea Gibson mentioned. As of right now we are trying to find students that would be interested in writing in our publication. Dr. Debatin has agreed to advise the publication so far. As of right now we are lacking in writers and people filling in the leadership roles needed as well. We have had help reaching out to journalism students, but we are also wanting people majoring in the sciences to join as well and this is what we were hoping you could help us with, since you are the Assistant Professor of Conservation Biology. If there happens to be anyone you know that could help us with this we would greatly appreciate it!

It sounds like a great initiative! Can you provide more information on your recruitment effort? Would this be for some sort of advising role, or contributors, etc? DO you need a critical mass of faculty on your publication board?
