Welcome back, everyone! I hope you are looking forward to this semester as much as I am. We will be continuing EcoLunch throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, and it’s time to organize the schedule. We invite faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate researchers to share their work with our community. EcoLunch has a long tradition of bringing our intellectual community together, and your participation helps keep that tradition strong. We especially welcome talks from Biology, Plant Biology, Geology, Biomedical Sciences, Anthropology, Philosophy, History, Mathematics, and any other disciplines connected to OCEES. We encourage presentations on works in progress. While defenses are the place for polished, completed projects, EcoLunch is an excellent venue to develop new ideas, test approaches, and receive feedback early enough for it to be useful. Works in progress often spark lively discussions and can help clarify arguments, refine figures, and even strengthen papers and grant proposals. For new members of our community—welcome! EcoLunch meets every Wednesday from 11:50–12:40 in 159 Irvine Hall. Feel free to bring your lunch. To join the OCEES listserv, please sign up here: https://listserv.ohio.edu/mailman/listinfo/ocees. Current members—please invite new students, faculty, and researchers to join us as well. EcoLunch will continue to be held in person. In BIOS, MS students are required to give at least one EcoLunch, and PhD students must give three. The fall semester typically has more open slots than spring, so presenting this semester is a good strategy. The first week (27-Aug) will be the OCEES organizational meeting. All OCEES faculty are asked to attend, as this is an important time to help shape the direction of our organization. Student members do not need to attend this meeting. If you would like to present this semester, please email me ( schenk at ohio.edu ) with your preferred dates and a tentative title. Available dates are: 27-Aug — OCEES organizational meeting (faculty only) 3-Sep 10-Sep 17-Sep 24-Sep 1-Oct 8-Oct 15-Oct 22-Oct 29-Oct 5-Nov 12-Nov 19-Nov — Thanksgiving Break (no seminar) 26-Nov 3-Dec Later dates tend to fill quickly, so please consider signing up for an earlier slot. Looking forward to another great semester, John Schenk _______________________________________ John J.
