Morton Lecture When: September 20 4-5 p.m. Where: McCracken 109 Dr. Melissa Boston of Duquesne University will present Linking Professional Development to Changes in Secondary Mathematics Teachers' Instructional Practices. The Enhancing Secondary Mathematics Teacher Preparation (ESP) Project engaged teachers in professional learning experiences focused on the selection and implementation of cognitively challenging mathematical tasks. In this talk, improvements in teachers' knowledge, selecti...on, and implementation of cognitively challenging tasks will be connected to their experiences and participation in the ESP workshop. A reception will follow the lecture in the lobby of McCracken Hall. Dr. Boston is widely known for her work in this area. See, for example, Boston, M. D., & Smith, M. S. (2009). Transforming secondary mathematics teaching: Increasing the cognitive demands of instructional tasks used in teachers' classrooms. Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 40, 119-156. Dr. Boston will present a two-day workshop 21-22 September on Instructional Quality Assessment (IQA) to train a group of faculty and doctoral students on the use of this research instrument.
