HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON WV
231 AM EST MON DEC 28 2015

A COLD FRONT WILL BRING GUSTY SHOWERS TO THE AREA LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THESE SHOWERS MAY BRING HEAVY RAINFALL.
GIVEN THE WET SOILS ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA...LOCALIZED FLOODING
IS POSSIBLE ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS AND IN POOR DRAINAGE
AREAS. THE STRONGER WIND GUSTS WITH THESE SHOWERS COULD CAUSE
WEAK TREES TO COME DOWN...ESPECIALLY WITH THE SATURATED GROUND.
WIND GUSTS UP TO 30KTS ARE POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF
WEST VIRGINIA AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA MOUNTIANS.

...DISCUSSION...

LOW PRESSURE OVER THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY WILL LIFT NORTHWARD INTO
THE GREAT LAKES TODAY. THIS WILL DRIVE A WARM FRONT ALONG WITH SOME
SHOWERS NORTH ACROSS THE CENTRAL APPALACHIANS AND MIDDLE OHIO RIVER
VALLEY WITH SHOWERS. A COLD FRONT WILL INTERCEPT THE WARM FRONT
TONIGHT...WITH MORE SHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS. THE SHOWERS WILL TAPER
OFF ON TUESDAY AS A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH. HOWEVER...
THE DRY PERIOD IS BRIEF. ANOTHER WAVE OF LOW PRESSURE WILL BRING
SHOWERS WEDNESDAY. COLDER AND DRIER AIR FILTERS IN AND TAKES HOLD
AS WE RING IN THE NEW YEAR.
