Both Graduate Assistant and Tuition Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. A student should indicate the types of financial aid for which they wish to be considered on the application for admission.
How to Apply
To be considered, a prospective student should have the completed application and all required materials submitted to the Graduate College by Feb. 15; awards are announced by April 1.
Graduate Assistants
Graduate Assistants carry a stipend plus a tuition scholarship for both the academic year and the adjoining summers. Assistants are expected to carry a full load of 12 hours per semester and to perform a variety of tasks, including assisting the faculty in teaching basic courses and undertaking research assignments, for 15 to 20 hours per week. Graduate Assistantships may be extended for two additional semester if the student has made satisfactory progress toward the degree, excelled academically, and has performed his or her assigned duties well.
Tuition Scholarships
Scholarships covering tuition expenses alone are awarded on the basis of academic ability. Recipients are required to take a full academic load of 12 credit hours per semester and are required to work six hours per week on departmental assignments. Support may be extended somewhat beyond one year if the student has made satisfactory progress toward the degree, excelled academically, and has performed his or her assigned duties well.
