Virtually all graduate students in the Department of Physics & Astronomy are supported financially, usually via a teaching assistantship (TA) during their first one or two years and a research assistantship (RA) thereafter.
There are no separate forms on which to apply for financial aid. On the online application system, under department funding, check all of the boxes that apply. However, if you can attend without support, you may explain this in your Statement of Purpose. Students who do not receive Assistantships are responsible for all tuition and fees.

- The Graduate Tuition Scholarship covers the following fees each semester:
- 100% of all instructional fees
- $215 of the general fee
- Non-resident surcharge, if applicable
- All graduate students are responsible for the following fees each semester:
- Remainder of the general fee
- College of Arts & Sciences graduate technology fee and
- Student Information System fee
- International students pay a one-time orientation fee of $150 upon arrival.
- Students not otherwise covered by health insurance must pay an annual premium for student health insurance . Students on assistantships that include a minimum stipend of $1,950 per semester and purchase the University Student Health Insurance Plan will be provided a health insurance subsidy .
