Hometown:Warren, Ohio
Expected Graduation:Spring 2018
After visiting her older brother at Ohio University, Emily knew the beautiful, small town of Athens was where she would spend her college years. All the trees, hiking trails and brick buildings made it feel very special.
Still deciding between majors, she heard great things about mechanical engineering from her brother and chose the same major. She feels she was right about the program, which led to three summer internships starting the summer after her freshman year, and a full-time job offer after last internship before senior year.
Because there are not very many women in mechanical engineering, she joined organizations – including the Society of Women Engineers, the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and the Margaret Boyd Scholars -- to meet more female friends. She says they helped her meet many amazing women make her experience at OHIO remarkable.
Emily is also a student employee. She worked as a peer mentor for the Office for Multicultural Student Access and Retention her freshman through junior year and currently works for Guest Services in Baker University Center.
In her free time, Emily enjoys being active outside. She loves running, hiking, yoga, snow skiing and water skiing.
