18th Annual Ohio University High School Horn Workshop

A Full Day Experience
Hosted by C. Scott Smith, horn professor at the School of Music at Ohio University.
Event Overview:
A full day of horn playing and experiences with C. Scott Smith and guest artist Larry Williams. Featuring Ohio University Wind Symphony conductor William Talley.
Students bring your positive energy (and of course your horn), and we'll provide professional horn players, expertise and a great time! Join us for a full day of practice, workshops, mentoring, and horns!
Participants will have the opportunity to perform in a final all-ensemble concert in the Glidden Recital Hall, with guest conductor, Professor Dr. William Talley, Director of Bands at Ohio University.
Parents, guardians, friends are welcome to observe all rehearsals and especially the final concert.

LARRY WILLIAMS
Hornist Larry Williams has distinguished himself as a multifaceted performing and recording artist, teacher and administrator.
Williams is currently the Hornist of the Gateways Brass Collective, and Principal Horn of Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, American Studio Orchestra, and Colour of Music Festival Orchestra. Williams is also a member of the Gateways Festival Orchestra, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Brass Quintet, and Rooftop Wind Quintet.
Williams has performed with the Baltimore, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and New World Symphony Orchestras, among others.
Williams has been featured at music festivals and tours of the US, Russia, China, Japan, and UK, and has performed with: Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Arturo Sandoval, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Roots, and others.
Williams has premiered and recorded several horn concerti, and has recorded several solo and chamber music albums.
Currently, Williams serves as Adjunct Professor of Horn at Washington Adventist University. Williams previously served as Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at Johns Hopkins University, and on the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and Florida International University.
Larry Williams is a Yamaha and Conn Selmer Performing Artist & Clinician.

2024 Itinerary

- 9:30 am: Registration
- 9:45 am: Welcome – Ensemble Part Assignments
- 9:50 am: Warm up/Horn Choir Rehearsal
- 11:00 am: Horn Ensembles Rehearse/Coaching
- 12:15 PM Lunch on your own – uptown
- 1:00 pm: Ensembles rehearsals
- 2:00 pm: Williams/Smith mini-concert / Williams masterclass (bring horns)
- 4:00 pm: Ensemble Rehearsals
- 5:10 pm: Last large ensemble – “touch-up” rehearsal
- 6:00 pm: Pizza!
- 6:30 pm: Final Concert – All Ensembles – Recital Hall with guest conductor: Professor Dr. William Talley, Director of Bands
