During his investiture speech in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis spoke about 26 students who will be the inaugural members of the Presidential Leadership Society - a volunteer organization of student representatives who will host alumni and donors at presidential and University events.
A new initiative of Dr. Nellis, the Presidential Leaders will begin to build a program that supports the mission of the University and the president, share insights into the student experience, and create a bond between students and administration that will endure for years to come.
“Each of these students represent the best of what Ohio University has to offer,” says President Nellis. “They have shown strong academic integrity and a passion for experiential learning, taking advantage of the many opportunities offered here.”
Members hail from nearly every college, including diverse majors and involvements, in-state, out-of-state and international students, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as veteran and regional campus representatives. Together, they will share their unique OHIO stories, instill Bobcat pride in friends of the University, and build a legacy for those selected in the future.
Selena Walsh, Junior Communications Studies major, says of being selected, “My experience over the past three years has prepared me to support the University’s mission of being a transformative institution, where we are surrounded by other students who are passionate and proud to be Bobcats, faculty who are advancing knowledge through research and creative activity, and an administration that values the opinions of others and shared governance. I love OHIO, and I hope to be able to share that love with others through this Society.”
