Ohio University’s sports administration graduate programs are at the top of their game once again. SportBusiness Professional recently named OHIO’s Professional Master of Sports Administration (PMSA) degree the world’s best online postgraduate sport course, and the Master of Sports Administration (MSA) program was ranked the second best postgraduate sport administration course in the world for 2019.
“For more than half a century, Ohio University has been at the forefront of sport business education, and we are proud to be consistently recognized among the best in the field,” said Hugh Sherman, dean of Ohio University’s College of Business. “We will continue to build on these honors, evolving with industry trends to give our students the skills they need to succeed in the competitive field.”
SportBusiness’ Postgraduate Sports Course Ranking will be published in the July issue of SportBusiness Review , and is based on student satisfaction, graduates’ full-time employment in the sports industry, and the programs’ reputations amongst sports management academic professionals.
“The cornerstone principles in sport management will always be part of our programs, but we try to stay ahead of the curve – offering classes, experiences, and opportunities that give our students a competitive edge to acquire great careers in the field,” said Jim Strode, associate professor and chair of the Department of Sports Administration. “The separating factor for our programs is our people. Our strategy is all about making sure we provide the best experience for our students. Our faculty help with that, as well as our strong alumni network.”
While both the part-time, online PMSA and full-time MSA are both housed in the University’s nationally-ranked, AACSB-accredited College of Business, each has a distinctive approach to meet the needs of students no matter their professional experience.
“Our PMSA is so rich because we have students from various career levels who bring different experiences and expertise to the classroom,” Strode said.
The residential MSA based in Athens, Ohio is revered as the oldest sports business program in the world, and is combined with the One-Year MBA program to prepare students for versatile, early-career roles within the sports industry. The MSA program has been ranked either first or second in the world by SportsBusiness for the past eight years.
In addition to the overall rankings, Ohio University also took world honors in these areas:
- First as Graduates’ Choice
- First in Average Salary for Graduates
- Second in Most Valuable in Furthering Career
- Second in Peer Review
- Third in Most Useful/Frequently Used in Current Role
“While we hold a reputation as a leader in sport business education, we will continue to strive to stay ahead of the curve, focusing on emerging topics, such as data analytics and eSports,” said Strode. “Our curriculum positions students and current professionals for success by expanding their knowledge of the sports industry.”
