Ohio University Mail Services has implemented a new mail technology to improve the experience of student mail delivery.
Earlier this year, Mail Services installed smart locker technology near each of the three green-based mail centers (Jefferson Hall-East Green, Ryors Hall-West Green, Mackinnon Halls-South Green) to expand access to packages beyond the standard hours of operation.
“These mail lockers are much more convenient for our students to access their packages,” said Blaine Gabriel, director of Printing Services, Mail Services and Moving/Surplus. “Package pickup is no longer limited to office hours and students don’t have to worry about waiting in line.”
The smart locker technology allows for reduced density in the mail centers, as well as direct access to packages with no wait time and the ability for students to pick up their packages anytime in a 36-hour window.
Students receive an email when they receive a package and use the bar code or enter a code received in the email to open the locker. Previously, students needed to enter the mail center during office hours to retrieve their mail or packages.
