OHIO's Division for Diversity and Inclusion announced that Dr. Duane Bruce has departed Ohio University for a promotional opportunity at Texas State University.
“On behalf of OHIO’s Division for Diversity and Inclusion and the campus community, I would like to thank Dr. Bruce for his efforts to help create and foster an inclusive community for everyone across the University, and we wish him the best as he begins a new and exciting chapter in his career,” Interim Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Salome Nnoromele said.
Dr. Bruce has served as Ohio University’s Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion since January 2022. He first joined OHIO as the Interim Assistant Director of the Multicultural Center in March 2020.
During his time at OHIO, Dr. Bruce played an instrumental role in numerous diversity and inclusion-focused efforts across the University, including “ Make Respect Visible,” an ongoing campaign that highlights the importance of inclusivity, respect and working together to create a sense of belonging in the community, and OHIO’s annual Juneteenth commemoration and celebration events in partnership with the University and Athens community.
Dr. Bruce also worked alongside several multicultural student organizations to further foster and promote a sense of belonging and engagement within the University. He was instrumental in developing the Inclusive Excellence Strategic Plan and launching the OHIO Men of Excellence Network (O-MEN) , which is an effort geared toward growing leadership, character development and academic support opportunities for diverse male-identifying undergraduate students.
Details regarding an official transition plan will be shared with the campus community at a later date.
