Archer takes the lead as Student Resource Center coordinator at OHIO Eastern

Deanna Archer was recently named as an Ohio Community Campus Coalition, AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2024-2025 academic year at Ohio University Eastern .

The AmeriCorps volunteer position at OHIO Eastern was made possible through ServeOhio , the state of Ohio’s commission on service and volunteerism. For the sixth academic year, ServeOhio selected Ohio Community Campus Coalition (CCC) to sponsor AmeriCorps members at higher education institutions to develop and sustain Student Resource Center (SRC) programs.

Archer, an OHIO Eastern 2024 graduate, is stepping into the role of Community Campus Coalition, AmeriCorps Student Resource Center coordinator for the upcoming academic year. Driven by her passion for helping others, Archer is eager to make a positive impact on campus.

“I chose to apply for this position because I love to help people, and I hope to make a meaningful difference in our campus community,” said Archer.

In her new role, Archer will support the development and growth of the Student Resource Center at OHIO Eastern. The Center is an Ohio Community Campus Coalition initiative and is designed to support campuses in identifying and providing much-needed resources to students who experience barriers to their academic success.

“Deanna is a great candidate for this position as she has demonstrated her kindness and willingness to help others in her previous position as a front desk assistant in the Student Services Office at Ohio University Eastern” said Jennifer Kellner-Muscar, OHIO Eastern director of Student Services.

Archer is committed to expanding the reach and impact of the Student Resource Center at OHIO Eastern and plans to boost student engagement through several initiatives.

“I’m excited to bring more pop-up events to campus, enhance the recognition of Cat’s Closet and Cat’s Cupboard, and plan additional fundraising events,” said Archer.

The OHIO Eastern Student Resource Center is a dedicated space on campus where students can find support for the challenges they face.

“The Student Resource Center can assist students with a wide range of needs, from finding housing and accessing food to securing transportation and medical care,” said Kellner-Muscar. “It also connects students to resources for substance abuse, counseling, and tutoring. The SRC serves as a central hub, linking students to university, campus, federal, and community resources.”

Students are encouraged to visit Archer in the Student Resource Center coordinator’s office located on the third floor of Shannon Hall, room 344. Additional services available for students on the third floor include access to Cat’s Career Clothing Closet and the Cat’s Cupboard food pantry. The center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., offering students to access a variety of resources, including food, clothing, and support services.
