Ohio University Chillicothe recognizes Adena Regional Medical Center with Community Partner Award

Ohio University recognized Adena Regional Medical Center with an Outstanding Community Partner Award at the third annual Community Engagement Symposium on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Ohio University Inn.

The Center for Campus and Community Engagement hosted the symposium featuring Ohio University’s awards ceremony recognizing the Community Partner Award Winners, the recipients of the Sugar Bush Foundation’s partnership awards, and recognition of Ohio University’s winner of the Ohio Campus Compact’s Ping Community Service Award. The event also included professional development opportunities for Ohio University staff, faculty and community organizations through interactive workshops and networking opportunities.

John Gabis, medical director of community partnerships at Adena Health System, accepted the award at the Community Engagement Symposium.

“Our partnership with Ohio University Chillicothe is strong and mutually beneficial,” Gabis said. “From nursing to healthcare administration, Adena Health and Ohio University Chillicothe offer ongoing learning experiences that often lead to excellent jobs right at home. We want to help our local folks be able to stay close to home and succeed in a career that is satisfying and also helps our community’s health.”

Ohio University Chillicothe Dean of Campus and Community Relations Roberta Milliken nominated Adena Regional Medical Center for the Outstanding Community Partner Award.

“OHIO Chillicothe’s nursing and social work programs and students particularly benefit from this partnership through clinicals, practicums, and other valuable field experiences,” said Dean of Campus and Community Relations Roberta Milliken. “Adena Regional Medical Center provides our students with diverse experiential learning opportunities that help prepare them for meaningful careers serving their communities.”

The other community partners recognized at the event were Impact Prevention, Ironton Rotary Club, Fairfield County Foundation, Muskingum County Library System, and the Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County.
