Innovation Center grant to support region’s makers and entrepreneurs


The Athens County Commissioners awarded a grant to the Innovation Center and LIGHTS  to improve access to product development and prototyping equipment for the region’s makers and entrepreneurs.

Sizable grant awarded for upgrades to OHIO Innovation Center


The U.S. Department of Commerce is awarding a $1.15 million dollar grant to the Innovation Center for necessary upgrades. The upgrades will include a new biotechnology lab and light manufacturing space.  

EDA invests $1.15 million to support OHIO Innovation Center


U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.15 million grant to help upgrade the Ohio University Innovation Center. 

Completion date for RXQ's new manufacturing facility is extended


RXQ's expansion project has been extended. The company currently resides in the Ohio University Innovation Center, but expects to move to their new facility in Albany, Ohio by August 30, 2019.

Local company leading the way in virtual reality


First responders and health care professionals manage difficult situations nearly every day. A new company based in Athens is trying to make training for those jobs easier and more realistic. Innovation Center client Emotus Tech is creating virtual reality training scenarios.

API/APEG hold first annual meeting in Frankfort


Appalachian Partnership Inc. (API) and its subsidiary the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG) held their first annual meeting, a luncheon at the Sunroom at the Brick in Frankfort, Ohio, near Chillicothe. The main purpose of the event was to roll out the Regional Economic Prosperity Plan, a plan that has been in process since January via thirty-six separate meetings with business leaders, stakeholders, partners, the public and more.

Interdisciplinary team creates virtual reality series to train health care providers in Appalachia


In training for patient care in Appalachia, a new virtual reality program created through Ohio University’s Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab simulates the experience of working with Appalachian patients and offers important insight into regional values and culture that can inform the ways in which practitioners can best provide care.

OHIO Innovation Center increased job growth, economic impact in last calendar year
