Student Travel Award Policy

Students who are traveling to conferences to present papers are eligible to receive funds to reimburse expenses up to a total amount of $350. Awards are made in the order in which applications are received. Students may apply for up to $500 per academic year. When funds allocated for a particular academic year have been depleted, students will be informed that no additional awards will be made. The conference agenda must be submitted along with the receipts. Reimbursement will be done only AFTER travel has occurred. All students who travel to present research are expected to participate in an on-campus event such as the OHIO Research and Creative Activities Expo and the Patton College Research Forum.

Requirements

  • Application submitted during the application cycle for the time window in which the travel will occur.
  • Budget describing costs for the following items: (i) Registration. (ii) Transportation. (iii) Accommodation (hotels). Meals and other expenses are not eligible for reimbursement. You must download and complete the ‘writable’ budget found and then upload it with this application.
    • In the event of 3 or more traveling authors, the total funding awarded is limited to the amount that would be allocated to 2 authors, with the expectation of shared lodging and carpooling when possible.
  • Conference acceptance confirmation email.
  • Evidence that you applied for funding from the Undergraduate Travel Fund (undergraduate students) or the Graduate Student Senate (graduate students)

The awards will be made at three levels of funding.

  1. For an award of up to $150, the student must complete and submit this form to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, along with the acceptance confirmation email from the conference.
  2. For an award of up to $250, the student must complete step 1 above and provide evidence/email confirmation that they applied for funding from:
    1. Graduate Students Only : Graduate Student Senate (GSS). Original Work Grant and Travel Award .  A confirmation email from GSS must be submitted.
    2. Undergraduate Students Only : Undergraduate Travel Fund .
  3. For an award of up to $350, the student must complete steps 1 & 2 above and submit a brief paper describing their work (about 4 double-spaced pages). The conference paper will NOT be reviewed as part of the travel application process, but the paper is expected to be a first draft toward a manuscript submitted for publication.
