Old Bobcat ties were renewed at unique event in Accra, Ghana on June 20. Director of the Center for International Studies Steve Howard hosted an alumni reception at the National Theatre for more than 50 alumni and friends. The Ohio University Alumni Association sponsored this gathering that brought together former students from all over the country. OHIO currently leads the United States in Ghana student enrollments with around 50 currently on campus. The reception preceded the final night of a 3-show run of “Diema,” a festival of Ghanaian music and dance.

OHIO Professors of Music and Dance, Dr. Paschal Younge and Dr. Zelma Badu-Younge, produced and directed the show, which played to full houses every night. Diema also featured several OHIO alumni and current students in the production.

Media Arts and Studies doctoral student and African Studies alum Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako said he enjoyed seeing alumni.

“It was amazing to see old friends from around the country and talk about ways that we can give back to Ghana.”

Dr. Andy Ofori-Birikorang (PhD '05) spoke on behalf of his Ghana fellow alumni.

“We want to have more regular meetings of this big group of OHIO alumni in Ghana.”
