History

Built in 1926, Putnam Hall originally housed the elementary school for training of teachers.

Rufus Putnam

Putnam Hall was named in honor of Rufus Putnam. He was born in Sutton, MA. He was self-educated. He was appointed Chief of Engineers by Congress. He presided over the meeting to form the Ohio Company of Associates that resulted in the founding of Ohio University. He was member of the first board of trustees at the university.
