Accreditation

Like physicians and attorneys, professional engineers and surveyors in the United States are licensed or registered, unless exempt by the laws of a particular state, because their work affects public welfare, health, and safety.     To attain licensure in engineering or surveying,  individuals must meet statutory educational, experience, and testing requirements.     While educational requirements vary from state to state, it is often the case that individuals who graduate from a program that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET ( abet.org ) satisfy the educational requirements for engineering licensure.      To attain engineering licensure, individuals must also take and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and Principles and Practices of Engineering (PE).

The undergraduate chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering, industrial and systems engineering, and mechanical engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET .

Other programs listed below are also accredited.   However, these careers do not presently have professional licensure requirements.

The undergraduate computer science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET .

The engineering technology and management program is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering .

The aviation flight curriculum is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration .    Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation (Aviation Flight) attain the following licenses and/or ratings prior to completing their degree:

  • Private Pilot ASEL (Airplane, Single-Engine, Land) License
  • Instrument Pilot Rating
  • Commercial Pilot ASEL License
  • AMEL (Airplane, Multi-Engine, Land) Rating
  • Certificated Flight Instructor ASEL License (CFI)
  • Certificated Flight Instructor ASEL – Instrument Rating (CFII)
