Photographs

Kennedy Museum of Art holds a diverse collection of more than 650 photographs, from the masterful pictorialist work of Clarence H. White to the iconic jazz portraiture of Herman Leonard. Other highlights include the work of James Karales, who covered the civil rights struggle and the Vietnam conflict for Look magazine, a series of portraits of the Navajo code talkers made in the early 1980s by Kenji Kawano, and Stanley Livingston’s indelible portraits of the great figures in blues music as they performed during the inaugural Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festivals in 1969 and 1970.
