Ohio University Facilities Management and Safety (FMS) has announced the September 2019 awardees of its Employee of the Month program, which recognizes exceptional performance by its employees.
All OHIO employees are invited to nominate FMS employees for this award using the nomination form on the FMS website. Nominations will be accepted at any time during the year.
This month’s winners are Cory Dorton and Randall Zimmerman (Bargaining Unit) and Tiffany Sanders (Administrative Staff).
Dorton , a member of the Electric Shop, was nominated by Duane Mace, who wrote:
“Cory’s recent work and dedication involving the research of flame resistant clothing to ensure the cal rating of everyday electrical work is met without putting on extra clothing makes him a standout employee,” Mace said. “The experience he brings to the shop is instrumental in continuing reliable operations and services.”
A closer look at Cory Dorton:
What do you like most about your job? I get to do a large variety of things. It never gets boring and I have a good group of people that I work with that makes work fun.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Still in the Electric Shop.
What is your favorite part about working for OHIO? The variety of things I get to do and the places I get to work. I enjoy interacting with so many different people throughout the University.
What is on your bucket list? I would like to do more traveling.
Sanders , a project coordinator for Design and Construction, was nominated by Brent Buckley, Danny Counts, Michael McAvoy, Stephanie Ruth and Gem Stone. Here is a sampling of what they wrote:
“Tiffany is an integral part of our office and is always a team player. She is greatly respected by her peers,” Buckley said.
“Tiffany’s work continues to be done on time and with a high level of quality. Her efforts are much appreciated,” Counts said.
“Tiffany has been admirably shouldering all of the coordination duties of the entire office. This not only involves handling twice the workload, but also numerous projects that she had no prior involvement in,” McAvoy said.
“Tiffany connects quickly with people, is easy to get along with, has a fun personality and is determined. She takes her job seriously and cares about customer satisfaction and the office’s overall success,” Ruth said.
“She is smart, quick witted, extraordinarily helpful, kind and funny. She is generally an all-around awesome person,” Stone said.
A closer look at Tiffany Sanders:
What is your family like? I have two boys and three dogs (yes, our dogs are family).
What do you like most about your job? The people. The project managers I support and the Design and Construction team are wonderful to work with.
What do you do in your spare time? I run errands and my youngest son to practices and other events. Kidding!
What is on your bucket list? Not so much a bucket list item, but I want to take time to travel more.”
What advice do you have for prospective OHIO candidates? Ohio University is a beautiful campus, get out of the office and explore.
Zimmerman , who works as an installer II in the Carpet and Tile Shop, was nominated by Jeff McGlamery. Here is a sampling of what he wrote:
“Randy has distinguished himself and his team with the completion of a series of high-profile projects throughout the University. Meticulous and deliberate, he ensures the task is done right the first time. His easy going demeanor and willingness to help at a moment’s notice are just two of the traits that make him an excellent co-worker. He is a true team player and is an invaluable asset to the Facilities Management team.”

What is your family like? Loving and kind.
What do you like most about your job? Solving problems.
What do you do in your spare time? I like landscaping and maintaining vehicles.
What do you do on your days off? Spend time with my daughter.
How has OHIO helped you in your career development? Ohio University has given me the opportunity to learn trades.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Retired.
What advice do you have for prospective OHIO candidates? Work hard and look for opportunities.
What is your favorite part about working at OHIO? The paycheck and co-workers.
What is something people don’t know about you? I’m looking to build a new home soon.
