To meet the changing needs of Ohio University students, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is implementing several changes beginning this fall regarding accommodated testing, as well as accommodations related to flexible attendance and flexible deadlines.
Accommodated testing will no longer be scheduled through SAS. Students with accommodations that cannot be met in the classroom will coordinate with Testing Services to schedule exams.
Flexible attendance and deadline accommodations were previously coordinated by email between SAS and the instructor, following a meeting between the student and accessibility coordinator. Students approved for these accommodations will now have a supplemental letter that they will provide directly to instructors, in addition to their instructor notification letter.
The instructor notification letter lists the specific accommodations the student has been approved for and is requesting in the course. The supplemental letter will outline specific expectations for how to implement flexibility with attendance accommodations and/or flexibility with deadlines.
If instructors have questions about how to implement accommodations for a specific student or believe an accommodation is not applicable to a specific course, please contact the student’s accessibility coordinator listed on the instructor notification letter to discuss.
“During this time of change and uncertainty, we are committed to continuing to ensure access to students with disabilities at Ohio University,” said Student Accessibility Services Director Christy Jenkins.
