The Theatre Department of Ohio University Eastern Campus will present “Scattered Shakespeare”, a collection of Shakespeare monologues and scenes, on Saturday, April 17 at 8:00pm on the Ohio University Eastern Campus YouTube channel.
The theme of this collection of scenes and monologues is “what if…?” The Ohio University Eastern Theatre company used that phrase as a starting point to re-imagine some of Shakespeare’s characters and situations. According to OHIO Eastern Theatre Director Dennis Fox, “The five actors involved are very experienced. We began by thinking of each scene and monologue as a play unto itself and I encouraged the actors to make choices that might not be possible in a fully staged production.”
The “what if…?” approach has led to interpretations that have surprised everyone involved with the production. The virtual rehearsals and recorded video format have also led to choices that might not have been an option in a fully staged, live production. Adds Fox, “In the beginning we all knew we had no idea where this process would lead us. We have been very pleasantly surprised…I think audiences will be too.”
The “Scattered Shakespeare” cast consists of Ohio University Eastern Theatre veterans Megan Simcox, of Colerain, Renno Barnes, of Bridgeport and Howard Blecher, of Flushing. Alexander L. Hill and Chelsey Keding, both of St. Clairsville, are new to OHIO Eastern Theatre, but both have a strong background in performance. “I’m very lucky to have such experienced and talented actors. Their passion and dedication have made “Scattered Shakespeare” a unique and rewarding experience.”
Those interested can virtually attend the premiere performance at 8:00pm on Saturday, April 17 on the Ohio University Eastern YouTube Channel . The performance will continue to available after the premiere.
