We're featuring some of the students we met at Bobcat Student Orientation in June. Meet Carter Shear, who will be entering OHIO this fall as a journalism news and information major. You can also meet more of our new Bobcats from across the University.
Why did you choose OHIO?
I chose Ohio University because I have a strong passion for journalism, and I knew that Scripps is one of the best schools for journalism in the whole country. Another reason is that when I visited the campus, I instantly fell in love with it, and I knew this was the place for me.
What accomplishments are you are most proud of from the past year?
I am most proud of how I had to overcome knee surgery right before my senior basketball season. I also had to try and achieve my academic goals while having a hybrid year due to COVID-19.
How are you spending your summer?
This summer I am working two jobs to try and save up money for this coming school year.
What were some highlights from your Bobcat Student Orientation experience?
I met some people in my orientation group who were really nice, and I became friends with them. It was extremely helpful to have someone help guide me to construct my first-year schedule.
What did you discover during BSO that surprised you?
It surprised me how helpful everyone was and how many resources there are for students.
What are you most looking forward to this fall?
Experiencing everything that Ohio University has to offer as well as making new friendships.
What are you bringing to transform your residence hall room into your new home?
I am bringing my PlayStation 4.
What’s on your college bucket list?
To have the opportunity for a unique internship as well as cheering the bobcats on to the Final Four.
