What previous work have you been involved with?
Over the past summer, I was the social media intern for Westfield Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio. I worked directly with the marketing communications team on projects and initiatives. I wrote copy for social media and company announcements, recorded and produced the company's insurance agent podcast and completed SEO research using SEMrush software. I was also a PR Team Member for Ohio University's fashion magazine, Thread Magazine. I created over a dozen Instagram stories and wrote content for their online blog.
What work are you currently involved with?
On campus, I am a very involved student, with three relevant leadership positions that align with my studies. I am currently the Head of Publicity and Social Media for Ohio University's Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society chapter. In this position, I created, and run, the Twitter account, @OhioUald , to promote chapter events, share important information and highlight unique opportunities. I also created a new chapter website from scratch to organize the chapter information into one place that is accessible for all. I am also the Vice President of Social Affairs for Scripps Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). In this position, I plan and execute chapter events and co-lead the Special Events Committee with two other executive board members. Additionally, I am a Client Services Account Executive for 1804 Communication, where I work with the Athens County Humane Society. In this position, I write social media copy, create content, and plan events, while leading a team of account associates. I am extremely grateful for the experiences Ohio University has given me so far, inside and outside of the classroom.
What are your professional goals?
Professionally, I would love to work in corporate communications doing social media or digital marketing work.
How do you think the social media certificate will help you in the future?
I believe having a social media certificate will make me a better, more prepared candidate for potential jobs. I also believe that having the certificate will give me the confidence boost I need to pursue a career in the world of social media. I would definitely recommend this certificate to other students of all majors, as social media touches nearly every industry today.
