Chillicothe, OH - A free Health & Safety Fair and Touch a Truck Experience will be held on the Ohio University Chillicothe campus on Saturday, October 1 from 10 am to 1 pm in the Stevenson Center gymnasium. Families with children and adults of all ages are welcome to explore over 40 health and wellness related booths and 10 first responder vehicles.
"We are very pleased to be hosting the Community and Safety Fair again at the Shoemaker Center on Ohio University Chillicothe’s campus. It has been several years since we have been able to do so, and we’re eager to bring the tradition back to Chillicothe," said Dr. Roberta Milliken, Dean of Campus and Community Relations. "The event is a great way to find out about services and opportunities our community offers to help us all be more healthy and safe. There will be something of interest for everyone from the young to the old."
The fair was designed with the entire family in mind. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about health services from a variety of exhibits and vendors. Educate yourself on healthy eating, exercise options, and other wellness activities at the fair. Representatives from dozens of local health care providers, wellness facilities, and programs will be on hand to answer questions and provide services.
Live entertainment and instructional classes will be offered throughout the day. These include: Rainbow Yoga with Nicole Dryden (10:10 -10:30), Tai Chi with Pam Nichols (11:00 am - 11:20 am), Geode Yoga with Marci Hedderson-Carroll (11:50am - 12:10pm) and Madden Karate with Heather Madden (12:15pm - 12:35pm).
"The purpose of the fair is to bring awareness of available resources and services local health and safety providers offer to our area communities," said Suzi Bloomfield, OHIO Chillicothe Executive Assistant. "Located on the beautiful campus of OHIO Chillicothe in the Shoemaker Center we will host vendors from all over the area."
Food will be available on site for families interested in eating at the event. A special thank you to Tim Hortons, McDonalds, Casa Del Taco, Golden Corral, Frisch’s Big Boy and IHOP for sponsoring this event and for helping Ohio University Chillicothe provide a dining option to guests.
The upper parking lot, adjacent the Stevenson Center, will house the Touch a Truck Experience. Get up close and personal with 10 of your favorite big rigs. Truck lovers young and old will have fun interacting with a wide variety of emergency and public safety vehicles. In addition, ODOT will be on site with a driver simulation machine. A must see activity will be a hayride available throughout the day on Ohio University Chillicothe campus.
"We will have something for everyone; local entertainment, a healthy kids zone, flu shots, and hayrides just to name a few,” added Suzi.
As a drop-in event, no registration is required and those who attend are welcome to stay for a portion of the program or for its entirety. This event could not have been offered without the generous support and sponsorships provided by Adena Health System and Kenworth. Thank you!
