In Fall 2024, Ohio University will launch three new faculty development programs.
Serendipity: Mid-Career Community of Practice
The Serendipity: Mid-Career Community of Practice faculty development program is a year-long, cohort-based community of practice (September – April). The program is designed to support mid-career faculty by providing opportunities to explore challenges commonly faced after promotion and to consider potential career opportunities post-promotion.
Co-led by Janet Simon, associate dean of the College of Health Sciences and Professions, and Katie Hartman, vice provost for faculty development, meetings will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams on the second Wednesday (September – April) of each month from 2-2:55 p.m.
"The Serendipity: Mid-Career Community of Practice will empower mid-career faculty through knowledge sharing, reflection and development,” Simon said.
Faculty interested in joining the 2024-25 cohort are invited to register for the program no later than Aug. 30, 2024.
OHIO Writing Challenge (OWC) Community of Practice
The OHIO Writing Challenge (OWC) Community of Practice is an opportunity for faculty to participate in an extension of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) 14-Day Writing Challenge. The writing challenge is a free opportunity for OHIO faculty to experiment with daily writing, online community and supportive accountability on NCFDD’s WriteNow platform.
The program will be convened by Mary Kate Hurley, associate professor in the Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Katie Hartman, vice provost for faculty development. Faculty interested in joining the Fall 2024 cohort are invited to register for the program no later than Monday, Sept. 2, 2024.
Grants 101 Learning Series
The Research Division and Office of the Provost are collaborating to offer the Grants 101 Learning Series. The goal of the five-part learning series is to assist faculty success with understanding how to find, write and apply for external grants.
Topics will include grant writing, finding grants, budgets and grant management. The series will be led by Roxanne Male'-Brune, senior director of grant development and projects for the Research Division. The Fall 2024 series is virtual and will be offered weekly on Fridays from 11:50 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. between Oct. 18 and Nov. 15. Faculty are encouraged to register online before Oct. 10.
