Biographical note

Josiah True was born on October 25, 1776 in New Hampshire. In 1793 he traveled to Marietta and then Dover Township in 1800. From 1815 to 1851 he was the Justice of the Peace in Dover. He was one of the founders of the "Coonskin Library" in Ames Township and brought one of the first spinning wheels to Dover by trading bear and deer skins in Zanesville. He also is known for establishing the first nursery attempted in the county with apple seeds. These seeds helped create some of the orchards on Sunday and Monday Creeks. He died on September 16th 1855.
