Biographical note

Samuel Crothers (1783-1856) was a leader in early Presbytery, minister, author and abolitionist. Under his influence in 1818, the Chillicothe Presbytery adopted a resolution that "slave-holding is a sin against God and Man."

Reverend Thomas White of Seneca (New York?) letter to Reverend Samuel Crothers of Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio. White gives an account of his situation since last seeing Crothers. The letter is in poor condition with sections from the folds and edges missing. Encapsulated. Included is a letter from the Ohio University library director (Walter Wright) to the donor (Ted Langstroth) dated June 2, 1967.
