Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from Phyllis Peirce stationed in Luzon to her family in Massachusetts. She discusses traveling to Manila and on the way seeing bamboo huts, women doing laundry and men working in rice fields. She describes a plane that swooped down over them as they traveled. At Manila she met with other WACs who were stationed at an old college, went by Intramuros, and then did some shopping and listed the prices of many items. She also describes eating in a restaurant, walking through Chinatown and visiting with friends. The next day she went on a tour in a G.I. truck, visiting Santo Tomas University, the docks, a stadium, and other buildings many of which were destroyed. They also stopped at a Chinese cemetery. She then returns to her base and writes about socializing and setting up her space. She also mentions wanting to plant seeds and gardening.
