Hamden Nuseryman's Diaries, 1861 - 1873

The Hamden Nurseryman's diaries span from 1861 to 1873 and consists of three diaries. Each day, this anonymous man recorded the date, weather (cloudy and cool, fair, thunder showers, etc.) and high/low temperature, and a very brief statement of what he did that day. (Fox hunt, work in nursery, chop and haul wood, seed and plant, plow corn or hay.) He did a lot of manual labor involving his plants and various trees, sometimes with help. Every once and a while there would be a trip (to fair, etc.) or news (A. Webb hung himself, Grant was elected president). Also very brief notes that the Civil War began "Great excitement" and Lincoln's death, "Mr. President Assassinated last night."

The three journals show little variety in his life. Consistently describing weather and tasks.
