Scope and Content
The Thomas H. Smith (THS) papers span from 1964 to 1975 and document THS's activities during this time. The collection includes correspondence; publication agreements; personal research; newspaper clippings; Athens city council agendas, meeting minutes, reports and agreements; Athens housing correspondence, memoranda and a tenant union proposal; city ordinance records; THS's election campaign correspondence, speeches, flyers and finances; THS's draft manuscript on the history of the Ohio University's faculty governance; and John Glenn's campaign correspondence, newsletters, strategy outlines and newspaper clippings.

Biography of Thomas H. Smith
Thomas H. Smith (THS) was an associate professor of history at Ohio University from 1967 to 1975. While in Athens, he was elected second ward councilman for the city of Athens for two terms and acted as field coordinator for John Glenn's 1974 senate campaign. THS has written three monographs on the history of Ohio: The Mapping of Ohio, Ohio in the American Revolution, and An Ohio Reader.
