Scope and Content
The Freedom on the March scrapbook dates from 1938 and contains a collection of items from this commemorative celebration of the Ordinance of 1787. The creator of the scrapbook is unknown. The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, a map of the route of the caravan through Ohio, and a printed program of the stop in Athens, Ohio. The program lists celebration committee members and participants at the city, state and federal levels.

History of Freedom on the March
Freedom on the March was a pioneer caravan and pageant commemorating the 1938 sesquicentennial of the Ordinance of 1787 and the beginning of settlement in the Northwest Territory. It was organized by the federal Northwest Territory Celebration Commission. The caravan toured throughout the area of the original Northwest Territory, including Ohio. The caravan made a stop in Athens, Ohio on April 11, 1938.
