Kinney family papers
Scope and Content
The Kinney family papers contain birth certificates, photographs, correspondence, and military discharge papers. The majority of the correspondence is written by John Kinney (JK) and Edward Kinney (EK) from their station in the American Civil War to their family members in Malanga, Monroe County, Ohio.
JK writes eleven letters reporting in detail on his experiences during the Civil War, at first from Camp Jackson, Columbus, Ohio, then from the battlefields of Tennessee. EK writes two letters from Camp Monroe at Portsmouth, Ohio. Also included are letters from the military medical personnel regarding JK's illness and a letter from Thomas E.
