Collection of World War II Newsmaps
Scope and Content
The collection of World War II Newsmaps spans from October 1942 to January 1946 and contains around two hundred posters. There are four volumes in this collection. Each volume originally contained about fifty Newsmaps, but some editions within each volume are not included.
Each Newsmap has a section titled "The War Fronts" which details the latest news on several different fronts. These details summarize war events by geographical area. Also included on these posters are many photographs depicting several different locations and events. Something else that is common to the Newsmap are maps showing the areas under Axis and Allied control.
On the reverse side of the posters there is the propaganda, encouraging support for the Allies, buying bonds, being careful of talking too much of secrets and general anti-Axis propaganda. There are also educational pieces on uniforms, weaponry and other topics. After mid-1945, the format changes and the Newsmap becomes more design-oriented and has less information in "The War Front" section.
