Scope and Content
The Office of Institutional Research records span from 1960 to 2001 and document the activity of the OIR at Ohio University. The records include compendia on historical planning information gathered by the OIR; fact books; studies on OU alumni; reports on student withdrawals and involvement; reports on the economic status of faculty; personnel surveys; marketing studies; salary studies; faculty inventories; and reports on education initiatives.

History of the Office of Institutional Research
The fundamental mission of the Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is to provide central information and analytical support for university planning, management, and assessment activities to help Ohio University (OU) fulfill its missio. In this capacity, OIR assumes primary responsibility for analyzing and interpreting data about the performance of OU; analyzing and interpreting data about the enviornment of OU; transforming data into information that supports university planning, policy making, decision making, and assessment; and communicating institutional to the OU community. OIR serves the academic affairs and other functions of OU.
OIR reports to the Office of the Provost. OIR is the OU office most identified with collecting, analyzing, and reporting institutional data pertaining to students, faculty and staff, academic programs, and physical space. OIR prepares institutional studies in such areas as academic programs, and phyiscial space. OIR prepares institutional studies in such areas as academic assessment, student enrollment, retention and graduation, faculty salary and staffing, and comparative studies using peer institutions. As an authoritative source of accurate and reliable data about OU, OIR has primary responsibility for representing OU to the Ohio Board of Regents in the following data area: student enrollment (for calcuation and distribution of state subsidy revenues), staffing, physical space, and academic programs.
